This week's PolitickerKY.com Winners & Losers

The Kentucky delegation to the RNC scored big this week, and if Anne Northup's absence is any indication, U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth has reason to be cautiously optimistic, too. Bruce Lunsford finally gets a debate with U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, but will anyone see it? See all of this week's Winners & Losers. | CLICK HERE

Palin who?

U.S. Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) for his vice presidential running mate came as a surprise to almost everyone.

She was little-known outside of her home state. During her 2006 gubernatorial campaign, she collected only a handful of contributions from 18 states other than her own. Hardly surprising or out of the ordinary for a state-level race, but it suggests she does not have a national fundraising network.

Palin collected just one $50 check from John Bender of Lexington for her gubernatorial campaign.

McCain still working to build a crowd

While some Democrats had been turning to sites like eBay and Craigslist hoping to scoop up scalped tickets to see U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Ill.) speech tonight at INVESCO Field in front of an estimated crowd of over 75,000 people, Republicans are still giving away tickets for U.S. Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) Ohio rally tomorrow, where he had been expected to announce his vice presidential running mate.

The McCain campaign is working to build a crowd of 10,000 for the event in Dayton.

Reminder: Buy low, sell high

Though U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Ill.) stock continues its steep ascent, few from Kentucky will reap the maximum political benefits because they missed out on the chance to scoop up stock during the IPO while it was still cheap. According to FEC records, nobody from Commonwealth contributed a significant sum to Obama before he won his U.S. Senate primary in March of 2004.

Where are they now?

Otis "Bullman" Hensley was arrested on Monday and charged with trying to solicit sex from minors. He denies the charges.

Hensley had run for governor twice previously. In the 2003 Democratic gubernatorial primary, Hensley received 9,372 votes and came in 3rd with 3.3 percent of the total votes cast. In 2007 he drew 3,792 votes and finished sixth out of six with 1.1 percent of the vote.

His running mate for lieutenant governor both times was Richard Robbins.
