Reid Haire's bid for the Democratic nomination in the Second Congressional District received a boost today with the campaign's unveiling of a second television ad.
The ad features Haire addressing a room about "What it means to be a Democrat" - also the title of the ad.
"It means you love God and you love your country," said Haire. "You protect from harm your family and your community from within and without."
The ad's focus on Haire's perception of his party affiliation comes after the second district seat has been held by a Republican for fourteen years. The seat is now left open by retiring Republican Ron Lews (R-Cecilia). The GOP is running a well-backed candidate in state Senator Brett Guthrie (R-Bowling Green), who has raked in over $400,000 in donations thanks in part to a fundraiser headlined by Vice President Dick Cheney.
Haire remains the only candidate on the air in the race. Opponent David Boswell entered the contest with arguably stronger name recognition, given his term as Kentucky's Commissioner of Agriculture and a 1987 bid for Lieuteanant governor. Boswell pushed his 31 years of experience in those roles and as a state legislator as a principle part of his platform in Monday's primary debate.
Haire's campaign asserts their candidate's on-air presence is a boon for their campaign.
"This is a further demonstration as to why Reid Haire should represent the 2nd Congressional District in the House of Representatives," read a statement from the Haire camp.
