Thieneman's camp hits the air in KY-3 race

Republican Chris Thieneman of Louisville is now on the air in the race for the Republican nomination in the 3rd Congressional District.

Thieneman's first ad references the candidate's history as a "hard-charging football player" and "risk-taking entrepreneuer and businessman." Thieneman works as a developer in Louisville and previously played on the University of Louisville's football team.

In the ad, Thieneman also mentions his leadership role in opposing the "library tax," an effort in Louisville to ad a two-tenths of 1 percent tax on individual earnings and net business profits in Jefferson County.

At the time, Thieneman and a group of supporters called "Support the Libraries, not the Tax" charged their were ethical and legal problems with the pro-tax effort.

The unveiling of the ad - first reported on the PageOne blog - makes Thieneman first on the air in the KY-3 race. Thieneman faces three Republican opponents for the district's nomination. The most prominent is the former holder of the sea, Anne Northup.

Thieneman's road to the nomination is a long one with just a short period in which to travel it. The May 20 primary is fast approaching, and Thieneman only recently resurrected his candidacy after quitting the race in late January.

In a poll conducted while the Thieneman campaign was still dormant, Northup was up on the Louisville developer by 68 points.

In a conference call yesterday, Northup noted she expected her campaign to be up on the air soon.
