KY-3: Northup on the air

The campaign of Anne Northup (R-Louisville) unveiled it's first television advertisement today for Northup's bid to regain the 3rd District Congressional seat she lost in 2006.

The advertisement focuses on Northup's position on energy independence, and features the former five-term Congresswoman telling viewers "we need to develop alternative sources of energy and tap our own huge oil reserves."

"The only way to stop our dependence on foreign oil is to use old-fashioned American know-how to produce more energy here at home," said Northup.

Northup's issue-specific ad is the second entry among the Republican candidates seeking to unseat freshman incumbent Congressman John Yarmuth (D-Louisville). Louisville developer Chris Thieneman released his first ad on Friday in his challenge to Northup - the Republican side's frontrunner.

Thieneman's late re-entry into the race gives him a hill to climb prior to the May 20 primary election. An April poll conducted when the candidate had not yet revived his campaign showed him 68 points behind Northup.

Still, Northup indicated last week that her campaign would not take a primary win for granted, noting her campaign would hit the air and distribute direct mail prior to election day.

The ad released today will be running in the Louisville market on cable and network stations.
