A real Kentucky prez primary might put Guv in a spot

As hard as it was to imagine just two months ago, Kentucky's May 20 Democratic presidential primary could actually be relevent -- if the dogfight between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama continues. Fifty-one delegates are at stake, and among Kentucky's eight superdelegates, Clinton has a three and Obama has one, Rep. John Yarmuth.

If Clinton/Obama comes down to Kentucky, which shares a 5/20 contest with Oregon, look for Democrats to put some pressure on Steve Beshear to make an endorsement -- something that is politically risky for the new Governor after his candidate in a Special Election for State Senate last month, Scott Alexander, lost to Republican Brandon Smith in a fairly Democratic district.

Why?

By May's primary Steve Beshear ought to be able to read the race pretty well. He is a superdelegate, however, and that will likely cause him to watch from a distance.
