The Courier-Journal reports that Kentucky Education Commissioner Jon Draud knew and approved the extra cost of his new state vehicle, even after a finance official offered him a chance to reconsider because of the state's bleak budget.
The e-mails, obtained in an open-records request, show that Draud instructed his staff to "proceed with the order based on the information/price quote" for a 2008 Chrysler 300 with $13,000 in extras, totaling $30,697.
Apparently I'm in the wrong profession. A six-figure salary and a fancy state-owned car? I guess the kids really don't need new textbooks this year after all.
