U.S. Rep John Yarmuth's (D-Louisville) first re-election bid may be helped by television ad buys funded the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), the Associated Press is reporting.
The AP has obtained a list of 31 races being targeted by the DCCC, where a total of $35 million in advertising time in September and October has been reserved.
Yarmuth's bid to win a rematch against the woman he unseated in 2006 - former U.S. Rep Anne Northup (R-Louisville) - is included among the races of incumbents the DCCC appears most interested in protecting.
Yarmuth was initially on the DCCC's initial list of 90 seats targeted for pick-up or defense.
Since that time, public polling has shown he holds a seventeen point lead over Northup. According to the AP's list, The DCCC is nonetheless looking to significantly invest in Yarmuth's bid.
One race not included in the DCCC's ad buys is Kentucky's 2nd Congressional District Race. There, state Senator David Boswell (D-Owensboro) faces a well-supported bid by state Senator Brett Guthrie (R-Bowling Green) for an open seat left vacant by the retirement of long-time Republican U.S. Rep, Ron Lewis, of Cecilia.
The KY-2 race made the initial DCCC target cut as a potential Democratic pick-up earlier this year. Public polling released last week was encouraging for the Boswell camp, showing their candidate with a three point lead over Guthrie.
According to the AP, other open seat races were targeted in Ohio, New Mexico, Arizona, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York and Virginia.
