According to new poll numbers, former Congresswoman Anne Northup is significantly ahead of her competition in the GOP race for the 3rd U.S. House district in Kentucky.
A new Survey USA poll commissioned by WHAS-TV finds Northup getting 79 percent support among respondents. The nearest competition for Northup is Louisville developer Chris Thieneman, who is polling at 11 percent.
Thieneman withdrew from the race in late January, but he remains officially on the ballot. After he was removed by a police officer from the Jefferson County Republican Convention last month, he told PolitickerKY.com he was considering rejoining the race out of his frustration with the state and local Republican party. At this time, no official announcement on Thieneman's decision has been made.
Northup looks to have a clear path to a rematch with Democratic Congressman John Yarmuth, who upset the then-incumbent Northup in 2006. The other two Republicans in the campaign maintain only single-digit support, with the Stearns-based Bob Devore grabbing 3 percent and Louisville realtor Corley Everett registering at 1 percent.
Survey USA - the firm conducting the poll - utilizes automated recordings to collect their data.
