The campaign of Senate candidate Greg Fischer (D-Louisville) rolled out a second list today of current and former elected officials who have officially endorsed his bid for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination.
Twenty-four counties from across the Commonwealth were represented by those on the new list of endorsing officials.
Among the more prominent on the list are former two-term U.S. Senator Walter Huddleston (D-Elizabethtown), Madisonville Mayor Will Cox, and Campbell County Democratic Party Chairman Ken Mullikin.
Fischer also collected the support of Phinis V. Hundley, the President of a local UAW chapter in LaRue county.
Fischer's principal opponent in the Democratic Senate race, Louisville businessman Bruce Lunsford, has previously received the endorsement of multiple major labor groups across the state, including the Kentucky AFL-CIO, UFCW, and Change to Win Kentucky.
It is the second effort by the Fischer campaign to highlight support from elected officials around the state in the past week. Last Thursday, Fischer was joined by a handful of former and current elected officials from the Jefferson County area for a rally in Louisville.
The campaign also touted the endorsement of their candidate by the Kentucky Standard Newspaper, the local paper of the town of Bardstown.
"This is the right office. This is the right time," read the Standard's endorsing editorial. "Fischer brings no heavy baggage; nor can he be bought or sold by corporations, big money, or special interests, he vows. Instead, he is a common-sense Democrat, committed to fiscal conservatism and working across aisles to do what is good for Kentucky and for the country."
