Everett in KY-3 race considers Thieneman endorsement

3rd District Congressional candidate and property manager Corley Everett (R-Louisville) is pondering ending his bid for the District's Republican nomination and endorsing fellow Republican candidate and Louisville developer Chris Thieneman.

Everett told PolitickerKY.com he was currently going door-to-door to promote his campaign, but that he was considering ceasing his efforts in favor of supporting Thieneman after that candidate began running a more visible campaign for the nomination.Corley Everett (R-Louisville)Corley Everett (R-Louisville)

"Chris has been doing a much more effective job," said Everett. "I've talked to him about a unified approach."

When asked if that meant he may drop out of the race, Everett said it was possible.

"It is something I am looking into, now that [Thieneman] has done mailings and commercials," said Everett.

Thieneman hit the airwaves last weekend with his campaign's first ad.

Their chief opponent in the 3rd District race is Anne Northup (R-Louisville), the former Congresswoman who was unseated by the seat's current holder, John Yarmuth (D-Louisville) in 2006.

Northup went up on television on Monday with her campaign's first advertisement.

The fourth Republican candidate in the race is UPS employee Bob Devore, of Louisville.

Everett has a short window in which to make his decision, with the May 20 primary rapidly approaching.

"I need talk with [Thieneman] about that, but its something I'd be willing to consider," said Everett. "I will probably know by Thursday."

It is unclear what impact Everett's withdrawl from the race would have on the other campaigns. Thieneman himself only recently revived his campaign after dropping out in early February.

In the only public polling conducted for the race - conducted while Thieneman's candidacy was still dormant - Thieneman grabbed 11 percent support and Everett just 1 percent.

Northup dominated the field in that SurveyUSA poll with 79 percent support.
