U.S. Senate candidate Bruce Lunsford (D-Louisville) received the endorsement of the Kentucky Enquirer in an editorial published this morning.
"Democratic voters face a difficult choice between two attractive candidates. But in terms of his overall experience in Kentucky politics and policies, his competitiveness and his specific proposals on the issues, we think the edge belongs to Lunsford," read the paper's editorial.
"Lunsford believes his private- and public-sector experience will help him in Washington, where he believes his expertise in health care, commerce and agriculture will more than offset his lack of seniority," the Enquirer continued. "Lunsford, despite his vulnerabilities, would be a stronger, more resourceful and credible foe against [incumbent Republican Senator Mitch] McConnell in the fall."
The Enquirer is the northern Kentucky edition of the Cincinnati Enquirer. The paper - owned by the Gannett company - has the highest circulation in the northern Kentucky area.
Lunsford earlier received the endorsement of the Louisville Courier-Journal, another Gannett paper.
Greg Fischer - Lunsford's foremost opponent in the May 20 Democratic Senate Primary - has received the endorsement of the Lexington Herald-Leader, the Kentucky Standard, and the Louisville Defender papers.
