The campaign of Daviess County Judge/Executive Reid Haire (D-Owensboro) is hopeful that increased turnout connected
Daviess County Judge/Executive Reid Haire (D-Owensboro) at the Owensboro International BBQ Festival with the competitive presidential primary can secure the Democratic nomination in the 3rd Congressional District of Kentucky.
Calling the presidential campaigns "the biggest get-out-the-vote mechanism" that can be used in the primary, Haire's campaign manager, Tim Shock, said he thought his campaign would benefit from more voters at the polls.
"We hope we have a big turnout," said Shock. "We certainly feel like that could help this campaign."
While the candidate travelled the district this past weekend, Shock said Haire's television advertising could help him most with the new and infrequent voters associated with expanded turnout.
"It is folks that are new voters and those that don't vote all the time that television reaches," said Shock, who said low-turnout primaries often are comprised of voters who can be reached with messages in multiple media.
Shock also said Haire had been "well-received" on the campaign trail, and he again pointed to the campaign's television effort as a reason for this.
"The TV is getting gout there," said Shock. "Folks knew him when he walked up to them."
Haire's opponent in the Democratic primary, state Senator David Boswell (D-Sorgho), has not invested in television advertising, but instead focused on radio and direct mail efforts.
