While the election is nearly five months away, a new SurveyUSA poll is showing former U.S. Rep Anne Northup (R-Louisville) seventeen points behind incumbent U.S. Rep John Yarmuth (D-Louisville).
The poll - commissioned by Louisville's WHAS television station - gives Yarmuth 57 percent support over the 40 percent garnered by the woman he defeated to take the seat in 2006.
In that 2006 race, Yarmuth beat then-incumbent Northup by just three points, 51 to 48 percent.
The new poll shows Yarmuth leading Northup across every demographic in the poll with the exception of "pro-life" voters, who favor Northup 59 to 39 percent.
646 "likely" voters were polled from June 6 to June 8 by the New Jersey-based SurveyUSA for the measurement. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percent.
SurveyUSA utilizes automated polling methods in their data collection, including push-button response technology and pre-recorded voices.
